A Half-Day in Coyoacan from Roma Norte
How to do Coyoacan well in half a day: Frida Kahlo tickets, the market, the plazas, and the ride back - without losing the whole day.
The one thing to book ahead
If you want the Frida Kahlo Museum, buy timed tickets online before you build the rest of the day. The museum explicitly does not sell tickets in person, and same-week slots can disappear. If tickets are gone, Coyoacan is still worth the trip; the neighborhood itself is the attraction.
Getting there
Coyoacan is usually a 35-70 minute rideshare from Roma Norte depending on traffic. Go mid-morning on a weekday if you can; weekends are festive but slower.
The half-day shape
Start at Casa Azul if you have tickets, then walk to Jardin Centenario and Plaza Hidalgo for the coyote fountain, the church, and cafe terraces. From there, Mercado de Coyoacan is two blocks north: the tostada stands in the center are the lunch.
Getting back
Request the return ride from a main street rather than deep inside the pedestrian zone. If you still have energy, save San Angel for a separate Saturday instead of forcing it into the same afternoon.
